Use peer tutoring during guided practice or independent practice.
Sometimes when student struggling in a content area is constantly asking their teacher for help, they tend to shut down for a while. It can be stigmatizing to students who are always the ones to tell the teacher when they are confused. To eliminate that from happening, you can assign a peer tutor or buddy to a struggling student. Not only does the struggling student benefit from the experience, so does the peer tutor. They get to reinforce what they learned by verbalizing and demonstrating how to complete a task to the student who is having difficulties. Try it out! You may want to meet with your assigned peer buddies to give a mini lesson on how to effectively show someone how to solve a problem instead of just giving them the answer.
