Welcome

Hello!

My name is Michelle Merrill and I have been a special education teacher for three years. Currently, I teach 6th through 8th graders in Chicago, IL who have various disabilities ranging from learning disabilities to emotional/behavior disorders. Over the course of these three years, I have found it difficult to truly differentiate to meet the needs of my students because I have not had my own classroom. This up coming school year will be the first time I will have a classroom totally to myself. Therefore, I found that it would be helpful to collect information, photographs, and research that supports a differentiated classroom. This blog will serve as a collection of resources for myself and new teachers who are nervous about setting up their first classroom.
When teachers differentitate their instruction and learning environment to meet the needs of all their students, effective and postive learning experiences are the result. Although it takes time and effort, the impact of a differentiated classroom can help foster an enriching and motivating classroom for all learners.
